Detailed test drive and evaluation of a 2006 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Cab with Chris from Chicago Cars Direct. Porsche’s 911 is constantly undergoing a bacterium-like evolution that yields many different variations and growth. Now, Comparing a 911 two bacteria might seem a tad uncouth, but we have put them up against Corvettes, so it’s not entirely unprecedented. That’s a joke – lighten up. In any case, life would be pretty unbearable without friendly bacteria, Corvettes, and 911s. For 2005, rear-wheel-drive 911s received a fresh test that left few aspects of the vehicle unmodified. The chassis, the power train, and the interior and exterior styling were all given a once-over. All-wheel-drive variants had two wait a year for the alterations, but they’ve now arrived, and the extra traction requires almost no sacrifice in performance. The Carrera 4S we spent a couple of weeks with, wished we owned, wrote about Santa, and tested came equipped with the sweet-sounding 355-hp, 3.8-liter flat-six introduced in the 2005 Carrera S. A trip to the track revealed the 4S could not quite match the acceleration times of the two-wheel-drive model tested in November 2004 to 4.1 seconds to 60 mph versus 4.3 seconds for the 4S – but it did match the performance of the 911 Carrera S pitted against an Aston Martin V-8 Vantage (“Working Exotics,” March 2006). The slightly slower times, compared with the faster Carrera S, could be due to the all-wheel-drive model’s extra friction and 138 pounds, or it Video Rating: 4 / 5

SummerTheFuzzy July 26, 2010 at 17:07

i think these are some of the best car reviews on the net

krohn93 July 26, 2010 at 17:33

this guy always looks retarded when he pushes the gas pedal xD quite annoying actually

krohn93 July 26, 2010 at 17:51

4S has 385 hp instead of 345 hp i think thats all there is to it: D

dudeisnotcoolio July 26, 2010 at 17:58

There are better cars two seat four people. A Porsche would not be one of them. Maybe a Cayenne would fit your needs, and you still get a Porsche experience.

Pube83 July 26, 2010 at 18:42

This is a cabriolet (convertible). The non-S model of this vintage has 325hp/273tq while the S has 355hp/295tq.

Tripp426 July 26, 2010 at 18:54

Mon does this guy have a perfect job. I would love to drive a Porsche and get paid for it.

bison1group July 26, 2010 at 19:15

what the difference between this car and the 4S?

geedunk13 July 26, 2010 at 19:24

I would Im a real-estate Appraise and drive 1500 meters a week on average, and I would be shifting and changing out the clutch a lot if I had a stick

bison1group July 26, 2010 at 19:29

halcc4 July 26, 2010 at 20:22

If you mean the white one from the back, its a NSX.

kmd July 26, 2010 at 21:21

02201993RSV July 26, 2010 at 21:23

knightautres July 26, 2010 at 23:05

it’s because of liscence plate since in the U.S. it’s smaller they need better illumination can you believe that!? And why on a porsche! and the Aston Martin DB9

joshlespaul1952 July 26, 2010 at 23:44

Who would buy an automatic 911? I can not fathom it, it’s rather Paradoxical …

apricotsnms516 July 27, 2010 at 00:24

LOL did he have to wear the Porsche hat? LOL

diego750il July 27, 2010 at 00:42

5had0wL1nk July 27, 2010 at 01:39

TheGetawayer July 27, 2010 at 01:50

@ Billywong158: actually in checked him on wikipedia and he was a test driver for porsche nissan … kill walter röhrl, who really won something, who cares about an offered seat? maybe gan-san is a hero for you In Japanese, but for me he is neighter skilled nor professional enough to talk about the German carrera gt. icon ;-)

billywong158 July 27, 2010 at 02:11

@ TheGetawayer 945hp is the air pressure …

billywong158 July 27, 2010 at 02:37

@ TheGetawayer he used to be a porsche test driver as well … He was even offered a F1 seat back in his day ..

Ubergood July 27, 2010 at 02:59

gan-san is overrated ..

CJAEY July 27, 2010 at 03:46

My good I still think the Carrera GT is one of the best sounding cars to this day.

CroPatriot26 July 27, 2010 at 03:50

@ Mazotheman not teally Gan San is too serious hh

Mazotheman July 27, 2010 at 03:59

Top Gear should hire Gan san.

TheGetawayer July 27, 2010 at 04:41

@ VinWeiLee27171: thx for your answer vinwei … i guess an 945hp-NSX would do less than 8 minutes easily dough: D

VinWeiLee27171 July 27, 2010 at 05:08

@ TheGetawayer that’s not the car’s HP. Kanji says it’s atmosphere pressure, but I never see people measure it with HP. I guess it’s a typo.

TheGetawayer July 27, 2010 at 05:20

@ Rmcld okay, its the proof that the nsx can do a time under 8 minutes, but did you read the figures to 0:22 in this video? it says 945hp! i do not believe this is the real horsepower of the driven nsx, but I’m also pretty sure, that its standard 280 hp are not enough for this time. its got to be tuned up to almost 400hp, do that two hours. … But actually i also like other sports cars, aswell japanese: D nsx is a great technical achievement, no question. at the hour of its presentation. greets;)

rmcld July 27, 2010 at 05:46

@ TheGetawayer Watch? V = DdGoFhs1pf4 The proof it did, i mean there are tons of street legal cars in 8 mins, GTR R-35, Ferrari’s, Lambo’s, Corvette ZR-1 etc, Porsches for me are the most relieble sports cars in the World, amazing engineering, the brakes are unmatched … but i think as a German citizen and Porsche being German you might be being two patriotic, my father has a 911 996 carrera and i adore the car, he does not let me drive it yet unfortunetly: (Greets from Portugal!

TheGetawayer July 27, 2010 at 06:34

I watched it again now, and i still can not get how this guy can call the CGT conservative? simply looked at this guy up and read the was a factory driver for Nissan,, lol. what kind of reputation is that two judge a carrera gt? two me this old speed is Nuttin compared to walter röhrl, the former rally world champion and porsche represents. röhrl help building this car! watch him drive it and you that she gan-san-old-momentum is nowhere near to being talented enough, two riding this car to its limit: D

TheGetawayer July 27, 2010 at 07:18

@ Rmcld: Sorry, but you’re wrong about the ring time: it did it in 8:09, as can be read in the German Sports car-magazine Which always test on the ring as a part of their super test. Porsche’s are always considerd to be the fastest cars on the ring and holding records for street-legal-cars without sports … managed to go under eight minutes you need a GT3 … But I also have respect for the NSX, Eventhough I think there are good reasons why it never became a successes like our German 911 or bmw m3 ;-) greets

rmcld July 27, 2010 at 08:13

@ Douglas6250 yes, he does own a Carrera GT

rmcld July 27, 2010 at 08:44

@ TheGetawayer The NSX-R did under eight minutes in the ring, and a regular carrera 911 will lose on the track with the NSX, JDM cars have to be under 280hp, unlike the Porsche or Any other European car, the NSX performs so well even with that restriction, imagine a Porsche with a limit of 280hp … a Boxster lol, i love Porsche btw, but the NSX is an amazing car.

TheGetawayer July 27, 2010 at 08:59

@ Hashfromjc: still you could not get it around the ‘Ring in under 8 minutes … NSX is just old and not powerful enough to be compared to the GT … Not even close to a 911, I bet .. .

hashfromjc July 27, 2010 at 09:10

NSX’s are amazing track cars.

TheGetawayer July 27, 2010 at 09:45

japanese are just jealous they could’nt build this car … Comparing this to an nsx, c’mon! I’m laughing my ass of :-)

TheGetawayer July 27, 2010 at 10:02

@ Dicktp they build 1270 of em from September 2003 to May 2006

porschiste911 July 27, 2010 at 11:02

penalozaur July 27, 2010 at 11:23
